Today we will discuss about belt drive and its types. We all know that belt drives are used to transmit power form one shaft to another, which. BELT DRIVE EME CIVIL DEPARTMENT. The most common types of belt drives include: Open belt drives, Cross belt drives, Stepped or speed cone pulley drives and Fast or loose pulley drives.

They are open belt drive and crossed belt drive. The two types of belt drives are discussed below in brief.
Types of Belt Drives
An open belt drive is used to rotate the driven pulley in the same direction of driving pulley. In the motion of belt drive, power transmission results make one side of pulley types of belt drives tightened compared to the other side.
In horizontal drives, tightened side is always kept on the lower side of two pulleys because the sag of the upper side slightly increases the angle of folding of the belt on the two pulleys.
A crossed belt drive is used to rotate driven pulley in the types of belt drives direction of driving pulley.
The woven endless belts are especially useful where minimum vibration is required at the driven pulley due to semi-elastic material used in construction. The higher power flat belts are often useful because they eliminate the need to high belt types of belt drives used to grip pulleys, which in turn reduces the load on the shaft bearings.
The material used for high power flat belts is sticky yet abrasion-resistant rubber compounds. This configuration results in no slippage, and therefore, the driving and driven shafts remain synchronized. Types of belt drives amount of power transmitted depends upon the following factors: Velocity of belt 2.
Tension under belt placed on pulleys 3. Arc of contact between thee belt and the smaller pulley Factor consider while selecting belt drive: Speed of the driving and driven shaft 2.
Speed reduction ratio 3. Power to be transmitted 4.

They are generally endless, and their general cross-section shape is roughly trapezoidal hence the name "V". The "V" shape of the belt tracks in a mating groove in the pulley or sheavewith the result that the belt cannot slip off. The types of belt drives also tends to wedge into the groove as the load increases—the greater the load, the greater the wedging action—improving torque transmission and making the V-belt an effective solution, needing less width and tension than flat belts.
V-belts trump flat belts with their small center distances and high reduction ratios. The preferred center distance is larger than the largest pulley diameter, but types of belt drives than three times the sum of both pulleys.
V-belts need larger pulleys for their thicker cross-section than flat belts.

For high-power requirements, two or more V-belts can be joined side-by-side in an arrangement called a multi-V, running on matching multi-groove sheaves.
This is known as a multiple-V-belt drive or sometimes a "classical V-belt drive". V-belts may be homogeneously rubber or polymer throughout, or there may be fibers embedded in the rubber or polymer for strength and reinforcement. The fibers may be types of belt drives textile materials such as cotton, polyamide such as Types of belt drives or polyester or, for greatest strength, of steel or aramid such as TechnoraTwaron or Kevlar.
When an endless types of belt drives does not fit the need, jointed and link V-belts may be employed. Most models offer the same power and speed ratings as equivalently-sized endless belts and do not require special pulleys to operate.
These provide easy installation and superior environmental resistance compared to rubber belts and are length-adjustable by disassembling and removing links when needed.
